Evening Glory

Evening Glory

Captured at a farm house down the road this past fall. The colors were captivating and the clouds and the tree limbs seemed to be reaching out to something to the east. Perhaps reaching for the remains of the day.

Sunrise in Puerto Morelos

I understand why photographers love the morning and evening, as the light has a way of transforming our field of view. On this particular morning on the beach in Puerto Morelos, I kept shooting and shooting, playing with the light, the shadows and the forms revealed as the sun rose.

Bonita

Reflections

During an eco-expedition to the Yucatan, I was able to capture this image of Bonita, an absolutely gorgeous Morelet’s crocodile. She was about 2 meters away and I had the lens just off the water of the cenote. In addition to the depth and color of her eyes, I enjoy the symmetry of this shot.

Sea Turtle Rock

Life imitating Art imitating Life

My son, Hunter, noticed that this rock formation in the middle of Franconia Brook looked an awful lot like a sea turtle. In a complex case of nature imitating art imitating nature, right down to the sculpted shell. It rather reminded me of another shot of mine, this one of a young snapping turtle.

Chicle Trail

Vanishing Point

This chicle trail in El Eden runs true for miles from east to west. Used in years gone by to transport chicle gum harvest, it now serves as a primary trail in the El Eden Ecological Reserve.

Passages

Passageway

A passageway through the limestone wall surrounding a beautiful Yucatan cenote. The water was beautiful and filled with tiny fish. The walls of the cenote rose 15-20′ above the waterline and this was the only way back out. A rustic wooden ladder through a limestone portal.

The world within

The World Within

An enlarged version of an earlier photo, as I happened to notice a reflection within the water droplet itself. I wish I could say that I planned this out, but it was purely a  chance shot! Of course now that I know what is possible, I will be alert for future opportunities such as this!

A life in hand

A touch of life

This is one of the shots that really got me back into photography. My son Hunter had a butterfly land on his hand. Looking at this shot, I feel the tie between nature and child.

Train Trestle over Sawyer River (B&W)

Taken off of Route 302 in Crawford Notch, the original shot was in color, although in this storm you could barely tell. I converted it to black and white to pull out the highlights and tone. You can see another version of this picture here in original color.

Sunrise over Squam in winter

This image was shot on the way into work one morning taken just off Route 113 in Holderness, NH. I enjoyed the shot as the sun revealed itself, reflecting off the ice, while the snowy mist softened the depths of the picture.
